RECLAIM AND PROSPECT
Welcome to Overdrive, a game of space exploration, battles over spaceship relics, and fleet command.
Players take the role of owners and commanders of small fleets of spaceships, operating around the remains of an interstellar vessel, the Cornucopia, in the orbit of the gas giant Themis. The cargo is priceless, but is also scattered throughout the moons and asteroid regions around the planet.
There is a vast fortune to be recovered, but everything that happens in this area is heavily regulated, and every fleet must go through the approval process of the Reclaim and Prospecting Authority, which provides permission to operate. Players must earn money and upgrade their Charter perks, to unlock new ships and new systems to customize their fleet. Every vessel is provided in leasing, and as long as you keep bringing valuable resources and credits back to the RPA, they won’t mind some battle damage.
The region is far from empty. Automated defense remnants from the Cornucopia still drift through the system, and leftovers of the Tech fleets have been spotted among the asteroid fields. At the same time, multiple human stakeholders operate in the area, each attempting to extract as much value as possible from the catastrophe without direct open war.
During encounters, players take control of parts of their fleet, with the foremost priority to recover cargo, salvage wrecks, and occasionally secure a bounty or fulfill an escort contract or two.
Combat is not the primary focus, but it is often an effective means to an end: forcing an opponent’s retreat can increase the share of rewards. Situations may even force temporary cooperation between players, as certain high-value recoveries lie within zones protected by threats too large or too unstable for a single fleet to handle.
Between battles, fleets grow and upgrade, new characters join the crews, and bays fill with recovered cargo, waiting to reach the right station to be sold for maximum profit. Multiple players can together start a campaign that develops over time, as they expand their Charters and uncover the mysteries hidden within the immense remains of the Cornucopia.
