Where is Greg?

Sculpt Type
Manual Sculpting

This massive 54mm diorama has been sculpted for the painter Peter Muller, and required me to stretch several techniques to work with that considerably larger scale. The bulk of the piece is a solid plaster slab, shaped to accomodate an underground gallery and a small vertical tunnels to reach a surface hatch. The parts have been detailed both in the inner parts and on the outer surfaces where the environment is supposedly cut in section. This is obviously not realistic, but provides a good feel of the material and somehow breaks the fourth wall, suggesting to the viewer that the section could actually be a full structure as it is.

From the original sketch i drew the final piece evolved slightly, but it kept the general shape and the feel.

Unfortunately, the piece is still awaiting on the painter’s workbench after over an year from completion, but i’m confident that it will be completed soon, and better pictures will follow!
